Accanto a Ernesto Rodrigues
Vittorio (MusicZoom)

"Unpoem" is a recording from Smup, Parede by the quintet, notable for two double bass players. The quinted plays one suite "Unpoem" in three movements.
The music is dominated by the strings and consists in combination of free improvisation, free minimal music and contemporary classical music, so characteristic for the Rodrigues Family Business and the Lisbon Scene, in general. The best fragments of the suite, for me, are those when one can hear better exposed lines of bass clarinet of Bruno Parrinha, for instance in the final part of the 12 minutes long "I". The highlight seems to be 21 minutes long "II", but I actually dig the short, only 4 and a half minute long "III" for its expressive and rhythmic power. Another great one from Creative Sources! Performing live at SMUP, in Parede, Portugal in 2022, the bass-oriented chamber quintet of Ernesto Rodrigues on viola, Bruno Parrinha on bass clarinet, Joao Madeira on double bass, Hernani Faustino on double bass and Jose Oliveira on percussion balance jazz and contemporary compositional approaches to their sophisticated and extremely detailed improvisations. An 8-part studio improvisation in Lisbon, 2022 from Portuguese musicians Ernesto Rodrigues on viola, Bruno Parrinha on flute & bass clarinet and Joao Madeira on double bass in a quartet with French tenor saxophonist Michel Stawicki, sometimes introspective and moody through highly detailed playing but building to periods of tumultuous and exciting activity. Musica Povera

... dans cette immensité

je sens les formes si pures
qui frôlent avec passion

un sentiment nouveau
qui coule dans mes veines

un simple regard absolu
sans peine et sans contrainte

Reviews

The 8-piece String Theory ensemble directed by violist Ernesto Rodrigues in a live performance at O'Culto da Ajuda in Lisbon of a beautiful and subtle work inspired by a poem written by Rodrigues, ".. dans cette immensite ", realized through viola, violin, cellos, viola de gamba, double bass, piano, zither and objects, a deceptively tranquil work of detail and dexterous execution.
